SR Series 1-7KW 3-phase electric motor forward and reverse rotation SSR

Introduction


This is a newly-designed SSR used for the control of forward and reverse rotation of electric motor; it is suitable for 3-phase inductive electric motor (P≤7000Wa). The built-in electronic lockdown circuit can effectively avoid the simultaneous conduction of SSR forward switch and reverse switch. The LED display the rotation direction of the 3-phase motor, green LED indicates forward direction and red LED indicates reverse direction. Its adoption of thyristor inverse parallel technology and built-in pressure responsive resistor over-voltage absorbing circuit has a strong over-voltage enduring capability, durable and stable.

Two models are available for this product, one choice is 2-controls of 3-phase, two terminals connect to the thyristor phase-shift switch, the other one is SC (short circuited). Another choice is 3-controls of 3-phase, all the 3 terminals connect to thyristor switch, which has a better performance than the former one.

A solid state relay (SSR) is an electronic switch, which, unlike an electromechanical relay, contains no moving parts. The types of SSR are photo-coupled SSR, transformer-coupled SSR, and hybrid SSR. A photo-coupled SSR is controlled by a low voltage signal which is isolated optically from the load. The control signal in a photo-coupled SSR typically energizes an LED which activates a photo-sensitive diode. The diode turns on a back-to-back thyristor, silicon controlled rectifier, or MOSFET transistor to switch the load.

Operation

Bi-directional solid state relay with opto-isolation.
Voltage applied to the control line of an SSR causes the LED to shine on the photo-sensitive diode. This produces a voltage between the MOSFET source and its gate, causing the MOSFET to turn on. An SSR based on a single MOSFET, or multiple MOSFET's in a paralleled array works well for DC loads.
There is an inherent substrate diode in all MOSFETs that conducts in the reverse direction. This means that a single MOSFET can't block current in both directions. For AC (bi-directional) operation, two MOSFETs are arranged back to back with their source pins tied together. Their drain pins are connected to either side of the output. The substrate diodes then are alternately reverse biased in order to block current when the relay is off. When the relay is on, the common source is always riding on the instantaneous signal level and both gates are biased positive relative to the source by the photo-diode.
It is common to provide access to the common source so that multiple MOSFETs can be wired in parallel if switching a DC load. There is also commonly some circuitry to discharge the gate when the LED is turned off, speeding the relay's turn-off.

SSRs are faster than electromechanical relays; their switching time is dependent on the time needed to power the LED on and off, typically on the order of nanoseconds
Increased lifetime due to the fact that there are no moving parts, and thus no wear
Clean, bounceless operation
Decreased electrical noise when switching
Can be used in environments where a spark must not be generated during turn-on
Totally silent operation
Smaller than a corresponding mechanical relay.

Disadvantages
Fail short more easily than electro-mechanical relays
Increased electrical noise when conducting
Higher impedance when closed (-> heat production)
Lower impedance when open
Reverse leakage current when open (μA range)
Possibility of false switching due to voltage transients
Often more expensive than comparable electromechanical relays

The Solid State Relay (SSR) are a series of single-pole, two-poles(dual output),three-poles(three phase),four-poles(quad output).normally open, solid state switching devices with no moving parts, capable of tens of millions of cycles of operation. It is designed to control 120V, 240V or 480V (up to 660V) alternating current (VAC), and provides zero voltage switching and 2500VAC isolation between the load terminals and the control signal. A control signal causes the solid state relay (SSR) to switch the ac load ON or OFF just as a conventional mechanical contact switch does but with none of the problems associated with moving contact relays, such as corrosion, pitting, arcing, radio frequency interference (RFI) and bounce. The result: Much longer life for the solid state relay (SSR).

Our solid state relay is designed around a pair of SCR's mounted on a heat-spreading metal base to eliminate thermal fatigue failures. To dissipate the heat developed naturally in an solid sate relay (SSR) due to a nominal voltage drop across the device, the solid state relay must be mounted on a Finned Heat Sink (FHS), or on a metal plate of adequate size. It is advisable to install an solid state relay where the ambient temperature is relatively low because its current-switching rating is decreased as its temperature increases.

Control resistance heaters up to 40 kW use solid state relay in conjunction with lower-rated temperature controllers. Three-phase loads can be controlled using 2 or 3 SSR's. Use 3 SSR's for Y-phase loads using a neutral line. Three solid state relays are also used when there is no neutral load to provide redundancy and extra assurance of control. Two SSRs will control "delta" loads.
